We're thinking about the future, today.
Huebsch is a company that cares about the environment. We believe in the importance of sustainable business practices to accelerate the world's transition to a more sustainable and prosperous future. As industry leaders, we have implemented various sustainable strategies throughout our business ranging from our production methods to the products we offer. Today we realize that we need to do much more to reduce our consumption of water, electricity, chemicals, oil and gas, and CO2 emissions.
Getting Started
Inspired by The Natural Step, a non-profit organization dedicated to educating businesses and communities about sustainable development, and coached by Gunnar Andréen of Malmö, Sweden, we set up the Index 100 measurement system to manage our improvement process. Index 100 is the starting point from which goals are set and progress is tracked. It starts with educating our people in the process and getting them to look for ways to improve. It also involves capturing accurate and useful data, and determining a common denominator. For example, we track water consumption in gallons/pound of soiled product processed.
Capturing the “low hanging fruit”, the numerous low cost and high benefit ways that our employees see everyday, will cumulatively result in significant reductions and savings. The savings from the “low hanging fruit” will pay for the larger investments to achieve additional, harder to attain reductions and savings. Implementing sustainable business practices can provide a unique competitive advantage within an industry and makes economic sense when done right.
